Ellen Boeren is Professor in Education at the University of Glasgow. She is Project Lead of the A.L.E. policies project. After obtaining her PhD in Educational Sciences from the K.U.Leuven in 2011, Ellen moved to the United Kingdom. She joined the University of Glasgow in July 2019. Throughout her career, Ellen’s work has extensively focussed on participation in adult education and training, notably in cooperation with large international organisations. In 2016, she undertook a secondment with the PIAAC team at the OECD Director for Education and Skills. She was co-editor of UNESCO’s Fourth Global Report on Adult Learning and Education. Until today, she is active in advising the European Commission on adult education and training. In 2017, Ellen won the Cyril O. Houle award for her outstanding contribution to the adult education literature for her book ‘Lifelong Learning Participation in a Changing Policy Context, an Interdisciplinary Theory. Between 2019 – 2022 she was editor of Adult Education Quarterly.
